“SoundWaters created a memorable experience that deepened our school’s core commitment to teaching young people leadership and responsibility. Our students had a great time learning to sail the ship, enjoyed studying the local marine life, and even loved cooking their own meals. The captain and crew of SoundWaters brought tremendous energy, creativity, organization, and experience that helped make the trip a success.”

Learning a new meaning of Community
Inhabitants of coastal ecosystems are inextricably linked to each other. When in balance, the ecosystem advances the success of the whole community. Like the coastal ecosystem, the shipboard community requires balance, relying on teamwork to accomplish its goals. The shipboard experience and the study of coastal habitats bring the concept of community to life.
The shipboard community develops from smaller groups of students working together as a cohesive unit.
Examining the biodiversity of the rocky shore habitat of a coastal island illustrates the complexity of a functioning ecosystem.
Students can achieve the designation of Citizen Scientist by contributing data to a study of invasive species by scientists at MIT.
