During School Time:
EARLY EXPLORERS (grades K-1) - This two-part program provides students with a critical link to the most significant natural resource in the region: Long Island Sound. Students will have the opportunity to see organisms found in Long Island Sound and establish a sense of wonder in order to then describe different structural characteristics as well as determine predator/prey relationships. This program takes place in the school classroom and at SoundWaters’ coastal center.
ISLAND EXPLORERS (grades 3-5) - This two-part program provides students with a critical link to the most significant natural resource in the region: Long Island Sound. Children study “seas and oceans,” but they have only limited opportunity to visit their own coastal environment and see key concepts (such as habitat, ecology, and biodiversity) in a real and vital way. This program takes place in the school classroom and at SoundWaters’ coastal center.
SCIENCE ON THE SOUND/FLOATING CLASSROOM - Explore Long Island Sound's ecology and biology while sailing aboard the Schooner SoundWaters: an ideal platform for a science enrichment program. Your students will: raise the sails, haul in a trawl net, and more! This program offers hands on learning experiences geared to grade levels that exceed CT and NY state core curriculum guidelines.
SEA & SAND - Make a day of it! Sail aboard the schooner SoundWaters, then enhance your experience with an additional two hours of programming at the SoundWaters Coastal Center.
After School:
ARTS TO LIFE - Experience is at the core of this unique after school program. SoundWaters educators will lead 12-20 students in three hour field trips to a variety of field sites. Science experiments, hikes, art projects and a sail on Long Island Sound are all part of the fun!
DISCOVERY TEAM - Students in grades K-4 can experience live animals, make a model of a watershed, and create art projects to take home. This one-hour program can run for 6-12 weeks in your school.
