They’re Coming! Horseshoe Crabs’ Seasonal Arrival Celebration

Horseshoe Crab Spring Festival

Saturday, May 22nd

SoundWaters Coastal Center, Cove Island Park

Come to SoundWaters and partake in the Horseshoe Crab Festival! This year's event is being held Saturday, May 22 at the SoundWaters Coastal Center in Cove Island Park in Stamford and will be run in conjunction with a Camp SoundWaters Open House (the camp being spotlighted will be Schooner Adventure, but general information about the summer camps will be presented and everyone is welcome to attend).

Long before dinosaurs existed and flowering plants covered the earth, these unique creatures filled the shores along the northern Atlantic Coast of North America. It is a phenomenon that continues to this day, and each year SoundWaters looks for volunteers to help count the spawning crabs that flood the beaches of Long Island Sound.

This day will include arts and crafts activities and an up-close-and-personal look at horseshoe crabs in the Center’s Horseshoe Crab touch tank. The event is ideal for groups, organizations, families or other individuals who want to learn more about these ancient creatures and their importance to the ecology of Long Island Sound. Stop by and have some fun Saturday learning about these creatures!

For more information, please contact SoundWaters by phone at (203) 406-3302, by e-mail at dianne@soundwaters.org or log onto www.soundwaters.org.
