CAMP COUNSELOR

SoundWaters, founded in 1989, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of Long Island Sound and its watershed through education. Annually SoundWaters offers shipboard and land-based programs to 35,000 children and adults. SoundWaters works in partnership with individuals, schools, communities, businesses, civic organizations, and other environmental and educational organizations to develop experiences that foster a sense of responsibility and encourage actions that ensure the sustainable future of the Long Island Sound ecosystem.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan, coordinate, supervise, lead, and evaluate a comprehensive summer recreation program under general supervision
• Ensure that safety precautions are strictly implemented and adhered to
• Maintain camp facilities and supplies
•Responsible for a group of children and their safety in an outdoors setting

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Previous experience working with summer recreation programs
• Enjoyment of being outside and interacting nature
• Ability to direct and supervise participants
• Maturity and ability to handle emergency situations
• Good physical health
• Good leadership skills
• Enthusiasm and creativity are a must
• Flexibility and willingness to try new things
• Must have or be able to obtain CPR/AED /FA for Professional Rescuer Certification.
• Must be 17 years of age
