Development Director
Definition of Position:
SoundWaters seeks an exceptional development professional who is passionate about our mission of protecting Long Island Sound through education to inspire confidence and develop opportunities for donors among individuals, corporations and foundations. The Development Director is responsible for both strategic leadership and day-to-day management of SoundWaters foundation and corporate relations. Specifically, the Development Director will both: 1) liaison and support the Board Development Committee to develop new relationships and 2) write the grants / reports for foundation and corporate giving. Will report directly to the Executive Director.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in: 1) grant writing; 2) developing, managing and tracking a portfolio of major donors; 3) successfully working at the Board level.
Principal Duties:
- Lead and track fundraising within corporate, foundation & government revenue streams;
- Write letters of inquiry, proposals and reports for corporate, foundation & govt donor
- Provide support for the Development Committee of the Board of Directors;
- Maintain calendar and tracking system of all grant related information ;
- Conduct targeted research on and outreach to potential funders.
Key Responsibilties:
- Cultivate long-term relationships with ongoing corporate, foundation, government agencies, and other institutional officers to ensure continued funding;
- Prepare and submit high-quality proposals and timely reports for grants;
- Work closely with the Executive Director and Board members to support their efforts to create new relationships and donors;
- Work alongside program staff in developing grant proposals that best support our mission;
- Identify and prioritize new corporations, foundations and government agencies to support SoundWaters mission.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in fund-raising and grant writing, 5-10 years experience preferred;
- Ability to effectively communicate SoundWaters programs to donors; demonstrated creativity and innovation in communications and fundraising efforts;
- Ability to create and direct long range plans; proven leadership & decision making skills;
- A strong understanding of and commitment to the work of SoundWaters.
