EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR
SoundWaters has an immediate opening for an Early Childhood Educator to teach environmental education programs to young children.
SoundWaters’ mission is to protect Long Island Sound through education. For the past two decades, SoundWaters’ Educators have shared the wonders and beauty of Long Island Sound with tens of thousands of children. We are looking for a talented Educator to join the enthusiastic and creative team at our Coastal Center in Stamford, CT.
Responsibilities:
- Teach environmental education programs alone and in team teaching situations
- Coordinate SoundWaters’ pre-school programs including managing interns
- Assist in program promotion
- Support the smooth operation of the SoundWaters Center for Environmental Education, answering phones, feeding aquaria, organizing and maintaining the learning lab classroom and aquarium exhibit, etc., as needed
- Work five days a week during the academic year; summer optional. Part time options available.
Qualifications:
- Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field or environmental degree with experience working with young children
- Experience running outdoor and classroom educational programs and implementing age-appropriate curricula; familiarity with experiential education desired
- Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds
- Demonstrated teamwork and flexibility
- Willingness to work hard and take initiative
- Additional certifications (first aid, lifeguarding etc.) a plus
Salary: $24,000-26,000, commensurate with experience including generous benefits package.
