POSITION AVAILABLE

SAILING INSTRUCTOR/WATERFRONT DIRECTOR

SoundWaters, founded in 1989, is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of Long Island Sound and its watershed through education. Annually SoundWaters offers shipboard and land-based programs to 35,000 children and adults. SoundWaters works in partnership with individuals, schools, communities, businesses, civic organizations, and other environmental and educational organizations to develop experiences that foster a sense of responsibility and encourage actions that ensure the sustainable future of the Long Island Sound ecosystem.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teach sailing techniques to campers grades 4 – 6 on both Opti’s & Pixels
• Develop and implement sailing program
• Maintain and care for SW fleet of boats

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Sailing Instructor Certification (current or willing to get)
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification (current or willing to get)
• Extensive sailing experience required
• CT safe boating certification (current or willing to get)
• Comfortable instructing children and adults
• Previous teaching experience
• FA / CPR for professional rescuer (current or willing to get)
• Knowledge of boat safety and regulations
• Ability to explain complex concepts in simple, easy to understand terms
•Flexible and able to develop back up lessons due to inclement weather
