Sailing Instructor Position Opening
The Sailing Instructor works with campers, SoundWaters staff and camp counselors to implement a sailing day camp program which meets the mission of SoundWaters and needs of the community. This is a teaching position that requires sailing experience, organization, decision-making, creativity extensive safety and clear communication skills.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and plan program curriculum to meet the diverse abilities and interests of our sailors
- Safety of all campers and staff
- Leading an enthusiastic and motivated team of instructors
- Assure that all equipment and facilities are safely and properly prepared and maintained for use by campers and staff. Arrange for broken and unsafe equipment and facilities to be repaired
- Manage and maintain our fleet of Pico and Optimist sail boats, as well as our chase boats so that they stay safe and in top condition
- Work to develop an enthusiastic and growing SoundWaters community of sailors and team of instructors
- Conduct regular and proactive communication with Waterfront Director
Qualifications:
- Outdoor sailing teaching experience preferred
- Energetic, friendly, approachable and able to relate well with both children and adults
- Outstanding organizational, safety and communication skills
- Strong background in dinghy to smallboat, youth, high school and/or collegiate sailing programs
- US Sailing Level 1 Instructor certification with current CPR and lifeguard training required
- Sailing program runs from June to the end of August
