Jimmy Stuart receives Volunteer Award for work with SoundWaters

This morning Jimmy Stuart, SoundWaters Board Member, received the Outstanding Volunteer Leadership Award from the Stamford Volunteer Center. Jimmy, a lifelong Stamford resident, has served as a member of SoundWaters Board of Directors since 2007 and how, in addition to his responsibilities as a Board member and co-chair of the Center Committee, Jim has assumed the volunteer role of caretaker of the SoundWaters Coastal Education Center.

His contributions to SoundWaters are lasting and on-going, ranging from trudging through 6 feet of water in the basement after Super Storm Sandy and single-handedly starting pumps and taking out buckets of water before the staff arrived to help to choreographing lights and music for our largest fund-raising gala, the Tall Ships Ball. An example of his caring personality is demonstrated most visibly when he volunteers with the staff at public festivals and fairs, where we reach the general public. Jim’s passion for sharing his excitement and knowledge about the animals of Long Island is evident with adults and children of all ages.

One might think that Jimmy is a true failure at leisure-time retirement. He finds joy helping others in whatever they need. If he’s not immediately available to SoundWaters, it’s because he’s assisting someone else and that makes Stamford a better community. Jim fulfills a need by unselfishly demonstrating that one person really can make a difference in ways both large and small.

Jimmy, as a retired teacher gets an A++

Congratulations to Jimmy!
